Multilingual Literacy

Overview

The Sacramento City Unified School District ELD/ELA departments celebrate and amplify the identities of all English Learners. We affirm that the unique needs and identities each student brings to their classrooms are an asset to the school community.  We strive to provide equitable access to rigorous instruction and develop a community of responsible learners who are inspired to be curious and feel empowered to direct their own learning and engage with their community. We are committed to creating collaborative and innovative professional learning and coaching experiences for staff, through which students develop critical thinking skills, achieve or surpass ELD and all content  standards, and develop lifelong learning habits and positive mindsets.

Working in collaboration with our stakeholders, we will accelerate the academic achievement of our English Language Learners and prepare for college and/or career.

School Language Programs

Overview

Language immersion is a method of teaching a second language in which the target language is used for instruction. Target language is defined as a language other than English such as Spanish, Hmong, Cantonese, or Mandarin. By way of a language immersion program, students will receive instruction where English and the target language are used as teaching tools and students are “immersed” in the second language.
